Training MOA Personnel to Use AgriMonitor for Efficient M&E Data Collection

Maevva Services trained Ministry of Agriculture County Level Facilitators (CLFs) and County Animal Health Workers (CAHWs) from seven counties to use AgriMonitor — the monitoring & evaluation app built to strengthen Liberia’s smallholder piggery sector.

The Assignment

Equipping the people closest to the farms.

AgriMonitor is a Monitoring & Evaluation application that allows easy collection and reporting of agribusiness information at multiple levels. The training was part of a larger project intended to develop the capacity of smallholder pig farmers so they can embrace piggery best practices while improving their businesses to generate profit.

The training consisted of indoor sessions and field visits to selected pig farms. During the indoor sessions, trainees learned about the app’s features and functionalities, and practiced navigating farms to evaluate their performance against the project’s Objectives and Expected Outcomes by answering questions in a predefined questionnaire. The field visits provided hands-on experience using the app to collect data from pig farmers, where the CLFs and CAHWs practiced asking the questions and recording answers, taking pictures, and recording comments against Key Performance Indicators.

The Route

Six stops, seven counties.

From an indoor classroom in Suakoko to pig pens in Johnsonville and Grand Cape Mount, the training moved with the trainees — indoors to learn the tool, then out to the farms to use it.

Facilitators and animal health workers gathered at TBG Farms to open the training — the first of seven county stops on the route.

Inside the 101 building at CARI/MOA, CLFs and CAHWs worked through the app’s features before ever stepping onto a farm — practicing the questionnaire logic against the project’s Objectives and Expected Outcomes.

Montserrado

Field visit, Johnsonville

The first hands-on test: a mock data collection at a working pig farm, trainees asking real questions and recording real answers under supervision.

Practical demonstration continued further west — the same questionnaire, a different farm, trainees building repetition and confidence.

On the training outcome

What It Produced

Skills, not just sessions.

With more practice, trainees are expected to become more familiar and comfortable using the app for data collection and analysis — equipping enumerators with the skills to collect piggery data that will inform decision-making and improve farming productivity and profitability across Liberia.
